Das COSPAS-SARSAT-Satelliten System besteht aus zwei sich ergänzenden Systemen: LEOSAR (Satelliten in polar-orbitaler Erdumlaufbahn) und GEOSAR (geo-stationäre Satelliten). Details dazu weiter unten im Text.

The COSPAS-SARSAT-Satellite System consists of two seperate systems:
LEOSAR (earth orbiting satellites) and GEOSAR (geostationary satellites). Details follow in the text below

406 MHz	* Beacon identification information and location information provided * Global coverage, but not instantaneous * Identifikation und Positionsbestimmung * weltweite Abdeckung, aber nicht sofortige Alarmierung (Überflug durch Satelliten)	* Beacon identification provided * location information available if location protocol distress beacon is used (interface with nav or GPS or built-in GPS) * Near instantaneous alerting in the GEOSAR coverage area * Identifikation * Positionsbestimmung, wenn Notsender Daten aus internem oder externem Nav-Gerät nutzen kann * Nahezu sofortige Alarmierung im Bereich des durch GEOSAR abgedeckten Bereiches
